Move to the sound of your music
Music Momentum is a unique mobile app designed to help a person improve their fitness levels while listening to their music. It can be used in many different forms of sporting activities. This is done by using the GPS data of a person’s mobile device, and calculating their speed at a given stage. When starting a session, the user inputs their Target Minimum Speed (TMS). Their current speed is then continuously compared against this target speed, and if the person slows down below their TMS, the app will notify them in several ways to encourage them to pick back up their pace.
When the user drops below their TMS setting, the app will notify them through 3 different forms of notifications. These are the “Music Slow Mo” feature, vibration and visual forms of feedback. The “Music Slow Mo” feature is a unique approach in design so that when this feature is triggered, it slows down the users music remarkably so that it represents something like the sound of a slow playing record.
In order to get their music back to the normal playing speed, they need to accelerate their pace to match (or above) their TMS, giving them the best possible momentum for each and every workout. Alternatively they can reduce their TMS within a session to a more appropriate pace, and if they wish to take a break from using the apps features, they also have the option of pausing the session at any stage.
Target Minimum Speed (TMS) & GPS Data
The “Target Minimum Speed” (TMS) is the speed setting that you wish to keep above. Once you fall below your TMS setting, the application features will be activated in order to alert you of your current status. These alert notifications will remain in place until you have accelerated your speed to reach your TMS setting (or above it) once again.
There are 3 different ways that the Music Momentum app will notify you that you have fallen below your TMS settings. Each of these features can be turned on/off in the settings window to personalise how you are notified when TMS has been triggered. However, for the fullest experience of the apps notification features, it is advised to have all 3 features active during your session.
- MusicSlowMo – The music you are listening to will reduce its normal playing speed, causing it to seem much slower almost like a slow playing record. This is a very obvious indication that the music is not playing at the speed that it should and in order to get your music playing at normal speed again, you will need to accelerate your pace to reach your TMS again.
- Animation – Your device screen will begin to flash to alert you that you have dropped below your TMS setting.
- Vibration – Your device will begin to vibrate to alert you that you have dropped below your TMS setting.
You can also adjust your TMS within your current session.
GPS & Location Services
When first using Music Momentum, you will be asked to allow permissions to access your GPS and Location Services. This is so the application is able to determine your GPS location and used to calculate your current speed within your session.
In order for the application to function as intended, you will need to allow such permissions, so that your current speed can be continuously compared against your TMS.
